What you can expect to learn: Safety Coordinator Knowledge. The heart of the COSS program is the solid foundation built on learning to read and apply the OSHA safety and training requirements in 29 CFR 1910 and 1926.

Other areas of knowledge covered are: OSHA 300 requirements, Louisiana safety requirements, Coordinating multiple worksites, Citations & penalties, and Safety Coordinator Skills.

Skills the COSS can expect to learn or enhance: Job planning, Hazard analysis, Job safety analysis, How to conduct effective safety meetings and briefings, Leadership, Communication skills, Presentation skills, Pre-job planning, and Safety Coordinator Essentials.

The COSS must have a good working understanding of the essential safety programs that are common to most all business and industry. Some of the topics covered are: Hazard communication, Competent person requirements, Fall protection, Hearing conservation, Common injuries and hazards, and Safety Coordinator Roles.

The role of the COSS will vary from setting to setting, but the COSS program will help to prepare safety coordinators for all types of application. You will gain experience in: Effective safety committees, Delivering safety training, Accident investigations, Worker’s compensation claims, Safety rules & regulations, Emergency response plans, Evaluating effectiveness, and Developing a written safety plan.
