    Training & Registration

How do I register for class?

You may schedule yourself for the Basic Orientation Plus or the Basic Orientation Plus Refresher course. Individual registration is also available for other selected courses listed under training on this website.

Should you need site specific training or if your employer is paying for the training, it must be scheduled by the company.

You may register by phone using a credit card. The card will not be run until the day you take the class. Otherwise, it is necessary to come in to our office during registration hours with valid ID and the class fee, $50.00 for the Basic Orientation Plus or $40.00 for the Basic Orientation Plus Refresher. Phone registrations will not be accepted without a valid credit card.

Registration is also available via this website by creating an e-registration account. Online registration is encouraged for both individuals and companies and, in many cases, discounted fees apply.

Fax Registration Forms are available for company use only and may be printed from this website using the ‘Forms-Schedules-Registration’ link located on the lower left side of the homepage. When using the Fax Registration Form, fill out all company information, payment information, signature, social security number of employee, employee name, course code and time as well as the date you want the employee to attend class.

If you are an invoicing company who uses P.O. or job numbers, please ensure that these are supplied as well. Fax the registration form to (225)766-1029. Any incomplete Fax Registration Forms will be faxed back to the company and the registration will not be entered until all necessary fields have been completed. An advantage to online registration is the student will be confirmed as registered for the class. We do not send fax confirmations. However, if the class is full or unavailable at the requested time, a Member Services representative will contact your company to let you know when the student may be scheduled.

Return to Questions at top of page

How do I know if I need to take the full Basic Orientation Plus course or the Refresher?
If your card has not been expired more than one year, you can take the Basic Orientation Plus Refresher. If your training has been expired for more than one year or if you have never had a card, you need to take the full Basic Orientation Plus course.

Return to Questions at top of page

What if I received the Basic Orientation Plus training or Basic Orientation Plus Refresher from another ARSC training center?
The Baton Rouge Safety Council allows a grace period of one year from date of expiration from participating ARSC councils.

For example, if an individual took the New Orleans BR class on 12/1/03, this class will expire on 12/31/04 and will no longer print on any ID card the student received from the Baton Rouge council. However, we will allow the course to be transferred into our database so the student can take the shorter Refresher course (12BR1) up until 12/31/05. After the grace period of this training record expires, the student would have to take the longer 12BR class.

If you have a card from another reciprocal safety council that has not expired or has been expired for less than one year, bring it with you on the day of your training so that this class may be validated and transferred to your Safety Council record to allow you to take only the Basic Orientation Plus class, where applicable.

Return to Questions at top of page

What class do I have to take if I failed the Basic Orientation Plus training or Basic Orientation Plus Refresher class in Baton Rouge?
If a student has failed either the Basic Orientation Plus training or Basic Orientation Plus Refresher, they would be required to take the full Basic Orientation Plus.

Return to Questions at top of page

How can I pay for the class?

Individuals- cash, money order, or any major credit card - No Personal Checks accepted
Companies- company checks, cash or any major credit card. Invoicing is only available with Safety Council Membership and Accounting approval.

Return to Questions at top of page

    What happens if I fail?
If the Basic Orientation Plus is failed, the retake will be at a discounted price at the next available time. If the Basic Orientation Plus Refresher class is failed, it will be necessary to retake the Basic Orientation Plus at full price, with subsequent retakes at a discounted rate. Many site specific training courses have specific rules about retakes.
