TWIC
Deadline Extended...But Stay Tuned
In! |
 |
| The U.S. Department of
Homeland Security (DHS) recently announced that
the final compliance date for the Transportation
Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) program
will be April 15, 2009. However, some
ports will be mandated to comply prior to that
date. At this time, it does not appear
that the Baton Rouge or New Orleans area will be
targeted for early compliance. The Coast Guard
will give a 90-day notice if early compliance is
anticipated. |
 |
There are seven fixed
enrollment stations in Louisiana: Baton Rouge,
Lake Charles, LaPlace (South Louisiana), New
Orleans, Port Fourchon, and newly opened sites in
Houma and Morgan City. In addition there are six
mobile sites in the Baton Rouge area:
ExxonMobil, DOW Plaquemine, Shell, BASF,
and soon to be open OXYChem’s Geismar and
Convent facilities for those company’s employees
and their contractor’s employees.
Workers
can pre-enroll online at www.tsa.gov/twic.
Pre-enrollment can accelerate credentialing by
allowing workers to provide biographic information
and schedule a time to complete the application
process in person. This eliminates delays at
enrollment center and reduces total enrollment
time for each worker. |
|
Although the compliance date has been extended,
everyone is encouraged to enroll as soon as
possible as appointments are booked 1-2 months in
advance and the application process can take 6-8
weeks. Additional information can be found on the
Transportation Security Administration's website
at www.tsa.gov/twic.
