Shining the Spotlight on Safety

Companies and individuals who excel in safety took center stage at the 50th Annual Meeting of the Safety Council of Louisiana Capital Area on April 3 at the Baton Rouge River Center.

As part of the dinner and ceremony, awards were handed out in the following categories:

Excellence in Safety

Bronze - Bowhead Logistics

COSS® Excellence in Safety Training Gold-Scott Cole, Lake County Dept. of Utilities

Recognitions were also given to Marathon Oil Corporation, Industry Collaborator of the Year; Cara Bozeman from the Office of Public Health, the Dr. Morton Levy Award; Albemarle Corporation, the Think Safe. Think Family Award; and, Gulf Coast Occupational Medicine, Louisiana Highway Safety Commission and BASF, Golden Star Awards.

The final award of the evening was the highly prestigious Award of Heroism. This award recognizes those who have performed in extraordinary ways for the benefit of another. Cpl. Jesse Barcelona of the Baton Rouge Police Department and his K9 partner, Rosco received this award for their heroic actions in saving one woman’s life after a high speed car chase through the city of Baton Rouge.

The awards presentation concluded with the changing of the guard as the Safety Council Chairman of the Board, Keith Sliman of Ford, Bacon & Davis handed over the reins to the newly elected Chairman, Jan Lass of Cajun Constructors, Inc.
